“The loftier the building, the deeper must the foundation be.” -Thomas Kempis

A foundation is the basis or groundwork of anything. It is the act of establishing. Building foundation takes time. What kind of foundation are you setting up? Is it the kind that crumbles when calamity strikes, or is it a foundation that stands thru the strongest winds?

Jesus tells us the parable of the wise and foolish builders in Matthew 7:24-27: 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”

All of us have gods. Your god can be money; it’s where your foundation lies. Money becomes your god when it is more important to you than anything else. Success can be a god. When work becomes more important than church, then success has taken over the driver’s seat. Relationships can be a god. When your feelings take over and are more valuable than what is right, then it is where you have made your foundation.

All of us have gods. Even so-called atheists have gods. The gods in our life are: money, sex, power, success, fame…you name it. All of us have gods…just make sure when life hits, your god can carry you through.

We hold on to our gods until the end. Its grip may be strong, but when the hardest of hardships arrive, it can lose its grip and let us go. Holding on to these gods will not stick because they will let go of your hand.  I’ve tried clinging to my gods, but it just doesn’t work. It only leads to frustration and despair.

Choose your god. For me, there is only ONE foundation, ONE source, and ONE god. The name of my foundation is JESUS. He is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end. The rest are just gods with a small g. Jesus is God with a capital G. If you put your trust in Him, he will never leave you nor forsake you. He will be with you wherever you go. You have no need to be afraid of impending danger because Jesus is the rock of your foundation, and that foundation will keep on standing till the end.
